1 in X - The 1 in X method is the simplest and easiest way to understand poker odds. For instance, if a player has 1 card that will give them a strong hand and if the deck contains only 46 cards, then they have 1 in 46 chances of getting the required card.

X to 1 - Most books on Holdem are fond of explaining the X to 1 method. For instance, if a player is caught in a situation in which his chances of winning stand at one-third while his chances of losing are two-third, he can be said to have a 2 to 1 chance of winning.

Percentage - Calculating odds in percentages is very difficult, but widely accepted. For instance, if a player has 1 in 25 chances of winning, it can be said he has a 4 percent chance of winning.

Probability - Probabilities are easy to understand when thought of as the percentage written in the decimal form. For instance, a 25 percent chance is actually a .25 probability. These odds can be converted from one to the other using a series of mathematical equations. Most poker sites even provide odds converters for the benefit of their players.
